Statistical methods include the use of various mathematical measures, formulae and practices developed in statistics. For big data analysis this may include the use of matrix algebra to find relationships, say between people and music preferences in recommender systems. In natural language processing, an example is the calculation of the frequencies of n-grams to create next-word predictors or in part of speach taggers.
